Center for Contemporary Art on Khodynka is made by a large, plastic device. The main facade faces the future park and residential quarters and is associated with the big eye, OKOM, the upper part of the architectural volume of the Center (roof) is also perceived as “OKO” and will visibly determine the place of the museum from Google. A look into the surrounding space and into space is the main creative core of the project.
In the central part of the museum – the “pupil” is a spherical atrium that performs a multitude of functions: a rotating wheel placed in it acts as a continuously operating elevators for the free movement of visitors to all levels of the atrium space, with a subsequent transition to the exhibition space. It is proposed to place large, constantly replaced exhibition-installations in the atrium. The constantly acting kinetic composition of the wheel, the surrounding of art objects, the infinite, free movement of visitors fulfill the main task of the atrium-eye: to launch movement inside the museum, to adjust the spectators to actively perceive modern, ever-changing, dynamic art.
The non-defensive, long-span space of exhibition halls, according to the authors’ intention, is the main condition for exhibiting any objects and allows creating completely free planning solutions for the exposition. All the Center’s indicators and technological solutions correspond to the technical task and functional tasks of the competition.
